Mary Wilkowski (Sr., Savannah, Ga.) converted on a three-point play to provide the opening scoring in the game, as she hit a layup and the free throw after the foul nearly a minute and a half into the game.
The Pipers held the lead through the opening five minutes, but the Oles took a one-point advantage, 6-5, at 14:44. A Wilkowski layup at 12:50 gave Hamline back the lead, 8-7, but St. Olaf would go up again 90 seconds later.
The hosts led at the break by three, 38-35. Wilkowski had 16 points in the opening 20 minutes of play while Brianna Blackhawk (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) had four rebounds.
Blackhawk immediately tied the game for the Pipers out of the locker room, draining a three within the first minute of the second half. She then hit a pair of free throws for a 40-38 lead at 18:44.
The Pipers and Oles traded leads and seven tied scores over the next five minutes of play. However, St. Olaf ultimately created the last lead change at 12:30, going up 55-53, and stayed ahead until the final buzzer.
Wilkowski finished with a game-high 20 points. Blackhawk and Kara Poirier (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) finished with 13 points apiece and Stephanie Robinson (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa) added 12.
Nikki Klinck (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) rounded out the double-digit Piper scoring with 10 points. Klinck led the team with seven rebounds.
St. Olaf was led by a double-double from Eileen O'Donoghue (17 points, 12 rebounds).
Hamline drops to 1-6, 0-4 MIAC while St. Olaf is 5-3, 2-3 MIAC. The Pipers will play one more game before the holiday break, traveling to UW-River Falls on Tuesday, December 14, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
