The first basket of the game came nearly two minutes after the opening tip as Kristen Lee (Fy., Dawson, Minn.) scored for the Wildcats. St. Catherine went up 8-0 at the 15-minute mark as Lee and Laura Kalbfell (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) hit a pair of shots from outside the arc.
Mary Wilkowski (Sr., Savannah, Ga.) ended the Piper scoring drought with a short basket six minutes into the game, starting a 12-4 run for the hosts that resulted in a 12-12 tie at 8:18. In that run, Kara Poirier (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) and Nikki Klinck (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) each drained a three-pointer for the Pipers.
A Kalbfell layup put the Wildcats back up by two, but it was a short-lived lead as Hamline scored the next 12 points to go up 24-14 with just over four minutes to play in the half. The Pipers would go on to lead by seven at the break, 26-19.
Jackie Kelly (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) had nine points to lead the Pipers in the first half while Wilkowski had eight points and eight rebounds. The Wildcats were led by eight points from Kalbfell in the half.
In the second half, the Wildcats opened with a 15-2 run to go up 33-28, and would go on to control the scoreboard from there.
Kalbfell led the Wildcats with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Lee had 12 points.
Wilowski had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Pipers. Kelly added 11 points.
Hamline falls to 1-3, 0-2 MIAC with the conference loss while St. Catherine is 2-2, 1-1 MIAC. The Pipers will hit the road for the first time in MIAC play on Monday, December 6, as they travel to Saint Benedict for a 7:30 p.m. game.
