The opening half of the game showed an even pairing as the two teams played to eight tied scores and four lead changes. By the end of the 20 minutes, the Cobbers led by just two, 35-33, at the half.
Hamline's leading scorer in the half, Mary Wilkowski (Sr., Savannah, Ga.), tallied 14 points. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Her play balanced out that of Concordia's leading scorer, Erica Nord, who recorded 15 points in the half.
In the second half, Kara Poirier (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) opened play with a three-pointer to put the Pipers up by one, 36-35.
The hosts regained the lead, but another Piper shot from outside the arc, this time from Nikki Klinck (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) at 13:44, gave Hamline another one-point lead, 46-45.
By the 13-minute mark Concordia had tied the score, and taken back a lead, on a pair of free throws from Maggie Bauernfeind. A jumper 30 seconds later followed by a Cobber trey put Concordia up by six at 11:53. That lead would prove to be one that they Pipers couldn't break down.
Wilkowski finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Klinck had 18 points. Steph Robinson (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa) added 12 points.
Nord finished with 25 for the Cobbers while Bauernfeind tallied 12 points and Lindsey Schultz added 10.
Hamline falls to 5-11, 4-9 MIAC with the conference loss while Concordia is 11-4, 9-3 MIAC. The Pipers will next host Saint Benedict on Wednesday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m.
