Close game falls in favor of the host Royals

Wilkowski opened the game with a short jumper for the Pipers, but Bethel quickly answered with a three-pointer for their first lead of the game.

Hamline took another turn at the lead, 13-12, at the 10-minute mark on a Steph Robinson (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa) layup. Bethel took the advantage back on a pair of free throws just 15 seconds later.

In the final 20 seconds of the first half, Kara Poirier (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) converted on three-point play with a layup and a free throw after the foul. Those points put the Pipers within one, 32-31, with 18 seconds on the clock.

The Royals scored on a layup on their next possession, and a Piper three-point attempt at the buzzer fell just short as Bethel led 34-31 at the break.

Hamline opened the second half with a pair of layups from Wilkowski and Robinson, taking a 35-34 lead at 17:48.

The teams exchanged small leads and ties over the next 15 minutes until the sixth and final tie of the game, 49-49, at 2:38.

Bethel broke the tie with a pair of free throws and went on to lead by as many as six points with 21 seconds remaining in the game.

Je'Naya Brown (Fy., Lewisville, Texas) sandwiched a Bethel free throw with a layup and a three-pointer to get the Pipers to within two, 60-58, with nine seconds on the clock.

The Royals got one more trip to the free throw line, however, with six seconds to play, and converted on both shots to win by four.

Wilkowski tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds in the game with four steals. Poirier added 11 points and six assists for the Pipers.

Nikki Klinck (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) also snagged four steals and had five rebounds in the game.
