The Pipers lost by set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 27-25.
After the Knights took an early lead en route to winning the opening set, the Pipers won the first two points of the second set.
Hamline took a 6-4 lead, but the Knights won 11 of the next 13 points to go up 15-8.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the match after controlling the scoreboard for the remainder of the set.
The Pipers got out to a quick start in the third set, leading 6-2 early on the strength of a pair of kills from Sam Greeney-Hamline (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) and one from Molly Schroeder (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.).
With the Pipers leading 22-18, Carleton rallied in the set, gaining a match point at 24-23 by winning six of seven points.
Shannon Schmidt (Jr., Bismark, N.D.) knocked down a kill to even the score, but the Knights gained another match point on a Piper service error.
They returned the favor to even the score once more, but a kill and a service ace ended the match in the favor of the hosts.
Hamline was led by nine kills from Greeney-Hamlin. Heidi Larsen (Sr., Andover, Minn.) had 15 digs.
Hamline falls to 9-15, 2-6 MIAC and Carleton improves to 10-11, 2-6 MIAC. The Pipers will next play at Macalester on Saturday, October 23, at 3:00 p.m.
