Seniors shine in sweep of Oles

After a scoreless opening inning, the Oles scored in the next three innings, but Pipers went on to score runs in every inning to follow, with the exception of the fourth for a 10-5 win.
 
The Oles took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the third. St. Olaf used three hits and a wild pitch to score two runs in the second and another run on a hit and an error in the third. The Pipers responded with a four-run third to go up 5-3, however.

In the third, Erin Farley (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) doubled to left field for an RBI while Ashley Anderberg (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn.) drove in two runs with a double to center field. Kristi Gravem (So., Maplewood, Minn.) added an RBI single for the fourth run.

St. Olaf evened the score in the fourth with three hits, including the two-RBI single to left field by Ali Berens (Sr., Shakopee, Minn.). Following that hit, Jessalyn Weaver (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) came in for the Pipers to pitch and she would go on to shutout the Oles for the remainder of the day.

Weaver threw three and one-thirds innings to finish the opener and earn the win, striking out three batters and giving up just three hits. She was aided by the Piper offense doubling their run total in the remaining innings. Brenna Healy (Sr., Mounds View, Minn.) and Kara Poirier (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) singled in runs in the fifth.

Then in the sixth inning, Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) dropped a triple into the gap in right center and scored on Farley’s second double of the game to left field. Anderberg aided Farley’s trip home with a two-run home run to left center to put her RBI total at four for the opening game.

Anderberg was 3-for-4 at the plate with the four RBI, Farley was 2-for-4 with the two RBI, and Larsen went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

St. Olaf was led by Jessica Wilson (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) hitting 3-for-4 with a run scored while Berens drove in two runs and hit 1-for-3.

In the second game, the Pipers waited until the third inning to open the scoring. Anderberg tallied her fifth RBI of the double-header on a ground-out and Laura Randall (Fy., Fridley, Minn.) had an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.

The Pipers then scored three runs in the fifth. Kelsey Tacheny (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) hit a double to left center to drive in two runs and Poirier picked up an RBI as she reached on a fielding error.

In the sixth, the Pipers scored three two-out runs to end the game early under the eight-run rule. Anderberg hit her second two-run home run of the day to put her final RBI tally at seven. Alleah Pac (Fy., Federal Way, Wash.) then recorded a pinch hit RBI-single to up the score to 8-0 and end the game.

Weaver threw a complete game for her second win of the day, striking out four batters along the way to tossing nine and one-thirds innings of shutout ball.

Anderberg was 1-for-4 at the plate en route to the three RBI in the second game.

With the conference wins, Hamline is now 15-17, 9-9 MIAC and the Oles drop to 14-18, 11-7 MIAC. The Pipers now travel to Carleton on Thursday, April 29, for a 4:00 p.m. double-header.
