Pipers close out MIAC play with sweep of Wildcats

Hamline took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Ashley Anderberg (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn.) singled in a run and Erin Farley (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) scored on an error.

Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) then put the Pipers up by four runs as she hit a two-run homer with Bethany Hine (Fy., Carver, Minn.) on base in the second inning.

The Pipers put their fifth and final run of the game on the board in the third as Kelsey Tacheny (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) hit an RBI-double.

The Wildcats attempted a late-game rally, scoring a run in the sixth and three more in the bottom of the seventh, but the Pipers held them off as they forced the final batter to pop out.

Larsen was 1-for-3 with the two RBI in the first game while Hine was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jessalyn Weaver (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) struck out six batters in taking the complete-game win on the rubber for Hamline.

For the second game in the double-header, Anderberg helped the Pipers put two runs on the board in the opening half inning, this time she drove in both runs with a home run.

Larsen added to her RBI total with a double that drove in a run in the fifth to put Hamline up 3-0, and then she hit her second two-run home run of the day in the seventh.

A sixth Piper run in the seventh came as Alleah Pac (Fy., Federal Way, Wash.) scored on an error.

Hine was 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game with three runs scored while Larsen was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Tacheny struck out five batters while throwing a complete game for the win.

The Pipers are now 19-17, 13-9 MIAC as they complete MIAC play with a sweep. The Pipers must await the conclusion of the other games being played today to learn their fate for the post-season.

They will play a non-conference double-header at UW-Stout on Tuesday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m. to finish out the regular season.
