Game 1: Box score
MAC 2 9 2
HU 4 7 0
Two hits that collected two RBI apiece provided all the scoring the
Pipers would need in the opening game of the double-header as Hamline
opened MIAC play with a win.
In the second inning, Ashley Anderberg (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn.) led
off with a double and then was joined on base by Brenna Healy (Jr.,
Mounds View, Minn.), who hit a single.
Lori Moldan (So., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) reached on a fielder's choice as
Anderberg was thrown out a home, keeping a pair of runners on the
bases. Kara Poirier (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) then hit her first double of
the season to drive in Healy and Moldan for the 2-0 lead.
Macalester added a run each in the fourth and fifth innings as Monica
Keaney (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) had an RBI single in the fourth. Amanda
Cagan (Sr., Saratoga, Calif.) then knocked a run in with a double in
the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pipers broke the 2-2 deadlock with a
pair of runs on two hits and an error to ultimately win the game. Farley
led off with a double and then Cortney Bailey (Jr., Blooming Prairie,
Minn.) came in to pinch run for her. Anderberg reached on an error and
then Louisa Lueck (So., Ripon, Wis.) came in to run for her.
Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) then reached on a fielder's choice
while Bailey was thrown out at home, but Moldan then drove in the
remaining two base runners with a single up the middle.
Poirier led the Pipers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with the two RBI
in the opener. Jessalyn Weaver (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) threw a complete game
in earning the win, striking out three batters. Olivia Abbott (Sr.,
Lakewood, Colo.) took the loss for the Scots.
Game 2: Box score
MAC 1 6 1
HU 9 16 1
Hamline allowed little drama in the second game, taking control early
and scoring in every inning for the 9-1 game shortened after five
innings by the eight-run rule.
Four hits scored three runs in the opening inning, including a
two-RBI double from Ashley Anderburgh and an RBI single by Larsen.
The Pipers then tallied two more in the second inning. Bethany Hine
(Fy., Carver, Minn.) led off with a single and ultimately scored on a
Macalester throwing error. Anderberg had the RBI on the second run with a
single down the left field line.
The Scots scored their lone run of the game in the third inning as
Abbott and Cagan hit back-to-back doubles to either side of center
field. Cagan had the RBI.
A single run on an RBI-single in the bottom of the third from Kelsey
Tacheny (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) put the Pipers up 6-1. They added two
more in the fourth as Erin Farley (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) hit a sharp
two-run homer over the fence in left center. She hit the round-tripper
with Kristi Gravem (So., Maplewood, Minn.) on base after hitting a
single.
Hamline's final run came in the bottom of the fifth as Norah Antil
(Sr., Pflugerville, Texas) singled with the bases loaded and no outs,
driving in Larsen for the eight-run lead to end the game.
Anderberg was 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game with three RBI
while Hine was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Weaver picked up the win in
the second game, as well, throwing three innings and scattering four
hits.
With the conference wins the Pipers are now 8-6, 2-0 MIAC and the
Scots fall to 4-18, 0-4 MIAC. The Pipers remain at home to host Bethel
University tomorrow, Thursday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m.
