The Pipers took the first lead of the game, putting a pair of runs on
the board in the top of the third inning. Kelsey Tacheny (Jr., Saint
Paul, Minn.) hit a lead-off single and then Erin Farley (Jr., Saint
Paul, Minn.) homered over the center field fence for a 2-0 lead.
The Blazers scored a single run in the third on a solo homer, and
then the Pipers went up by two again in the fourth on a trio of singles.
Bethany Hine (Fy., Carver, Minn.) had an RBI-single to third base to
plate the runner to go up 3-1.
In the fourth, Saint Benedict capitalized on four Piper errors and
three hits – all singles – to score three runs, which ultimately gave
the Blazers the opening game win.
Farley was 2-for-4 at the plate in the opening game with the two RBI.
Jessalyn Weaver (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) threw a complete game in taking the
loss for the Pipers.

The Pipers and Blazers exchanged single runs in the first inning,
with the Pipers’ Tacheny reaching on an error and then scoring on an RBI
single by Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.).
Saint Benedict tallied their run in the bottom of the opening frame on an RBI single with two outs.
Kristi Gravem (So., Maplewood, Minn.) hit a single with one out in
the second. She was joined on base by Jackie Brigl (Fy., Roseville,
Minn.) on a single and Erin Kastner (Fy., Faribault, Minn.), who reached
on an error. Hamline then took a 3-1 lead in the second as Tacheny
doubled in a pair of runs with a hit to right center with the bases
loaded, scoring Gravem and Brigl.
The Blazers added their second run of the game in the third as a
batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, the Pipers
held Saint Benedict scoreless for the rest of the game, and added two
more runs to their tally in the top of the seventh.
The final two insurance runs game on a home run from Ashley Anderberg (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn.).
Weaver took the win for the Pipers in the second game, tossing
another complete game. The split on the day moved her record to 8-7 on
the year.
Hamline is now 11-13, 5-5 MIAC, while the Blazers are 9-15, 4-6 MIAC.
The Pipers host Saint Mary’s on Tuesday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m.
