A pair of doubles in the opening half inning of play got the
Pipers started quickly after the long bus ride to Moorhead. Erin Farley
(Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) hit a two-out single and then Heidi Larsen
(Jr., Andover, Minn.) doubled to left center to put two runners in
scoring position. Ashley Anderberg (Sr., Circle Pines, Minn.) then
doubled to left field to drive in Farley and Larsen for the 2-0 lead.
The Cobbers evened the score immediately in the bottom of the inning,
using three singles to score two runs. They then took a 4-0 lead in the
third inning on a solo home run and a bases-loaded walk.
Farley hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Kelsey Tacheny (Jr.,
Saint Paul, Minn.), who drew a walk to get on base with one out.
Concordia opened their lead back up to three runs in the sixth with four
hits, and that proved to be the key for the Cobbers as Hamline scored
two in the seventh.
Hamline’s seventh-inning rally attempt came as Laura Randall (Fy.,
Fridley, Minn.) and Jackie Brigl (Fy., Roseville, Minn.) hit
back-to-back doubles to lead off the innings. Tacheny then scored
Randall with a sacrifice fly and Bethany Hine (Fy., Carver, Minn.)
singled to center field to drive in Brigl.
A foul-out and a ground-out ended the comeback attempt, however, and Concordia held on for the 6-5 win in the opener.
Farley was 2-for-2 at the plate in the opener. Jessalyn Weaver (Sr.,
Eagan, Minn.) struck out three batters and threw the complete game for
Hamline in taking the loss.

Three scoreless innings led to a total of nine runs crossing the
plate in the fourth. With two out, Hamline put five on the board in the
top of the inning on four hits. Concordia then had four runs on three
hits, as well as two bases-loaded walks, in the bottom of the inning.
In the Hamline half of the inning, Louisa Lueck (So., Ripon, Wis.)
drew a two-out walk and scored as Jessica Churchill (So., Duluth, Minn.)
doubled to right center. Kara Poirier (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) drove in
the second run of the inning with a single to right field and then
advanced to third on a Courtney Bailey (Jr., Blooming Prairie, Minn.)
infield single.
Bailey stole second to put two runners in scoring position and, for
the second time that day, Anderberg took advantage of the situation to
drive in two runs with a double.
Anderberg then advanced to third and scored on wild pitches for the fifth run.
Hamline added their final two runs in the sixth inning as Erin
Kastner (Fy., Saint Paul, Minn.) and Lori Moldan (So., Sleepy Eye,
Minn.) had RBI singles.
Anderberg was 3-for-5 in the second game with two RBI, driving in a
total of four runs in the two games. Tacheny threw six innings in
earning the win on the rubber for the Pipers.
Hamline is now 13-17, 7-9 MIAC while the Cobbers are 9-28, 6-14 MIAC.
The Pipers return to Helen Meredith Field for their final home game of
the year on Wednesday, April 28, at 4:00 p.m.
