La Sierra scored first in the game, putting a pair of runs on the
board using three hits and two Piper errors in the bottom of the second
inning.
The Pipers then chipped away at the La Sierra lead, scoring a run in
the fourth. Despite having a trio of hits in the inning, they needed
just one of them for the run. Kristi Gravem (So., Maplewood, Minn.) hit a
lead-off double, stole third, and then stole home to make it a one-run
game.
La Sierra countered with a run in the bottom of the inning,
capitalizing on a pair of Piper errors. Gravem then added an RBI to her
game's total in the top of the fifth on a fielder's choice, once again
cutting the Piper deficit to one run.
The Pipers took the lead in the sixth inning as Brenna Healy (Sr.,
Mounds View, Minn.) had a pair of RBI on a single to left center field.
Hamline then scored their fifth and final run in the seventh as Kelsey
Tacheny (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) drew a lead-off walk and scored on an
error.
Jessalyn Weaver (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) threw a complete game for the win, striking out six batters while scattering seven hits.
Game 2 vs. Cal Baptist: Box score

After a scoreless opening inning, Cal Baptist put a trio of runs on
the board in the bottom of the second and continued from there. They
scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings, while adding one
run in the sixth before the game was ended due to the eight-run rule.
Tacheny started, and threw two innings, in taking the loss for the Pipers.
Erin Farley (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) went 2-for-2 at the plate in the second game for Hamline.
The Pipers open the season at 1-1 overall. They remain in California and take on Tufts and Williams on Saturday.
