Pipers fell meet records and have trio of NCAA provisional marks at Border Battle

Brent Nelson (Sr., New London, Minn.) took home the win in the 200-meter dash in 22.97 while Christian Swanberg (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) was second in the event in 23.04.

Andy Marnach (Sr., Hokah, Minn.) and Nelson placed one-two in the 400-meter dash, as Marnach set a meet record with a run of 50.49 and Nelson finished in 50.52.

Jamison Hull (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) was the winner of the 1000-meter run, also in meet record time, in 2:36.67.

Ian Campbell's (So., Blooming Prairie, Minn.) first-place run in the mile was also a meet record in 4:21.62. Pipers also took the second through fifth place finishes in the mile. Jack Deichert (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) was second in 4:24.93, Devin Monson (So., Thompson, N.D.) was third in 4:26.74, Ellis Richardson (So., Roseville, Minn.) was fourth in 4:33.85, and Andrew Johnson (Jr., Andover, Minn.) placed fifth in 4:34.17.

Piper 1600 meter relay teams placed first and second, with the first place team setting a meet record in 3:27.09.

Recording a win in the field events was Ben Johnson (So., Roseville, Minn.) with a leap of 13.83 meters (45-4 1/2), setting a new meet record.

Derall King (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) won the shot put with a put of 16.46 meters (54-0), a meet record and an NCAA provisional toss. This was the third straight meet that King has met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put.

In the weight throw, Andrew Schlichting (So., North Oaks, Minn.0 placed second with a toss of 17.40 meters (57-1) and King was third with a throw of 16.84 meters (55-3). The pair both hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark with their throws and Schlichting's mark is the 14th best in the nation while King's is 24th.

Additionally on the track, Clarence Suttle (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) finished second in the 55-mater dash in 6.59 and Matt Warhol (Jr., Andover, Minn.) was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.08. Warhol was also third in the 200-meter hurdles in 27.10.

Brendan Ruter (Fy., New London, Minn.) placed second in the 800-meter run in 2:02.85 while Tyson Molitor (Jr., Belgrade, Minn.) was third in 2:04.12.

Shaise Schuette (Fy., Anoka, Minn.) was second in the pole vault, clearing 4.47 meters (14-8).
