The Pipers placed at least three throwers in the top ten in the shot put, discus throw, and hammer throw.
Derall King's (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) second place finish
in the shot put led the Pipers in that event. He threw an NCAA
provisional qualifying toss of 16.13 meters (52-11), while Brennan
McKeag (So., Lakeville, Minn.) placed third with a toss of 15.24 meters
(50-0). Placing sixth in the shot put was Josh Blaschko (Sr., Lakeville,
Minn.) at 14.43 meters (47-4 1/4) and Nate Bell (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.)
was eighth with a throw of 13.71 meters (44-11 3/4).
In the discus throw, Pipers swept places two through five. Finishing
second was Blake Springman (Jr., Adrian, Minn.) at 41.04 meters (134-8)
while Nik Hawley (Jr., Saint Paul Park, Minn.) was third with a throw of
41.03 meters (134-7). Blaschko was fourth (40.89 meters, 134-2) and
King placed fifth (40.67 meters, 133-5).
Pipers placed second through fourth in the hammer throw, led by Bell
in second with a throw of 51.35 meters (168-6). Aaron Wilkerson (Sr.,
Roseville, Minn.) was third at 50.93 meters (167-1) and Andrew
Schlichting (So., North Oaks, Minn.) was fourth at 48.23 meters (158-3).
In the other throwing event, the javelin, Pete Usset (Jr., Mendota
Heights, Minn.) placed third with a toss of 51.91 meters (170-4).
On the track, Brent Nelson (Sr., New London, Minn.) and Andy Marnach
(Sr., Hokah, Minn.) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the
400-meter dash. Nelson sprinted to the finish in 49.38 while Marnach ran
a 49.82 race.
In the relays, Hamline's 1600-meter relay team of Marnach, Tyson
Molitor (Jr., Belgrade, Minn.), Christan Swanberg (Jr., Lindstrom,
Minn.), and Nelson placed second. They ran the relay in 3:17.40.
The 400-meter relay team placed third with a time of 43.42. That team
was comprised of Dan Holmgren (Jr., Andover, Minn.), Paris Richardson
(Sr., Brooklyn Center, Minn.), Dan Johnson (Jr., Granite Falls, Minn.),
and Swanberg.
Dan Johnson also had a top-ten finish in the long jump and triple
jump. He was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.84 meters (42-1
1/2) and ninth in the long jump at 6.13 meters (20-1 1/2).
Ian Campbell (Jr., Blooming Prairie, Minn.) placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:01.52.
Andy Johnson (Jr., Andover, Minn.) placed sixth and Jamison Hull
(Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) was ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Johnson completed the race in 9:58.91 while Hull posted a time of
10:28.36.
Matt Warhol (Jr., Andover, Minn.) placed 10th in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.60.
The Pipers next compete on Saturday, April 10, when they will host the Hamline Invite at Klas Field.
