King's put of 16.84 meters (55-2) placed him fourth. The top eight finishers earn All-American honors.

This is King's first All-American performance at outdoor nationals. He was All-American in shot put at indoor nationals in 2009 and 2010 and in hammer throw at indoor nationals in 2010.

Brennan McKeag (So., Lakeville, Minn.) also competed in the shot put at nationals, throwing 15.63 meters (51-3 1/2). The throw did not qualify him for finals.
