Wilkerson had a toss of 53.29 (174-10) meters in his preliminary
round throws. The throw was not enough to qualify him for the finals.
The NCAA champion in the weight throw was Eric Flores from California
Lutheran with an NCAA Championships record throw of 66.35 meters
(217-8).
Two more Pipers will compete tomorrow - Derall King (Jr., Inver Grove
Heights, Minn.) and Brennan McKeag (So., Lakeville, Minn.) will compete
in the first flight in the shot put at 1:30 p.m.
King is already a three-time All-American (shot put at indoor
nationals in 2009 and 2010, hammer throw at indoor nationals in 2010).
Mike Manders, a Hamline alum, holds both the NCAA Division III best
throw in shot put (20.01 meters, 65-8) and the NCAA championships record
(19.56 meters, 64 2 1/4). He set both marks in 1983.
