McKeag hits provo mark in shot put as Pipers host Capitol City Championships

Brennan McKeag (So., Lakeville, Minn.) won the shot put with his provisional qualifying toss of 16.53 meters (54-2 3/4). Josh Blaschko (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) was second with a put of 14.66 meters (48-1 1/5).

The Pipers swept the top four spots in the discus, led by Derall King (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) at 44.95 meters (147-6). Nik Hawley (Jr., Saint Paul Park, Minn.) was second at 44.19 meters (145-0), Blake Springman (Jr., Adrian, Minn.) was third with a throw of 42.60 (140-5), and Blaschko was fourth at 41.46 meters (136-0).

In the javelin, John Yates (Fy., Bemidji, Minn.) won with a toss of 52.76 meters (173-1) and Trevor Davis (So., Farmington, Minn.) was second at 48.55 meters (159-3).

On Sunday, the hammer throw was contested and Piper throwers swept the top five spots. Nate Bell (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.) won the event with a throw of 51.37 meters (168-6). Andrew Schlichting (So., North Oaks, Minn.) was second with a toss of 50.15 meters (164-6. Coming in third was King at 48.24 meters (158-3) and McKeag was fourth at 46.86 meters (153-9). Springman came in fifth at 43.05 meters (141-3).    

Andy Marnach (Sr., Hokah, Minn.) and Brent Nelson (Sr., New London, Minn.) took the top two places in the 200-meter dash. Marnach won the event in 22.14 to edge out Nelson in second in 22.40. Javan Copley (So., Shoreview, Minn.) was fourth in 22.85.

Christian Swanberg (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.16.

In the 1500-meter run, Ian Campbell (So., Blooming Prairie, Minn.) placed second, crossing the line in 4:08.02.

Pipers finished second and third in the 5000-meter run as Devin Monson (So., Thompson, N.D.) was second in 15:25.75 and Ian Bauer (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) was third in 15:26.07.

Nate Walker (Fy., River Falls, Wis.) won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:04.92.

Shaise Schuette (Fy., Anoka, Minn.) won the pole vault as he cleared 4.60 meters (15-1).

In the long jump, Dan Johnson (Jr., Granite Falls, Minn.) was third with a leap of 6.21 meters (21-4 1/4). He placed third in the triple jump at 13.10 meters (42-11 3/4) while Ben Johnson (So., Roseville, Minn.) was second at 13.87 meters (45-6 1/4).

The hammer throw portion of the meet will be contested on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
