The Piper throwers had success, including an NCAA provisional
qualifying throw in the shot put and hammer throw. In the shot put,
Derall King (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Brennan McKeag (So.,
Lakeville, Minn.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
King was fourth overall in the shot put, with the top three places
taken up by University of Minnesota athletes and an unattached thrower.
He had an NCAA provisional throw of 15.59 meters (51-1 3/4).
McKeag had a put of 15.25 meters (50-1/2) to place fifth.
In the hammer throw, Aaron Wilkerson (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) had an
NCAA provo throw with a toss of 52.87 meters (173-5) to place eighth.
Six of the competitors ahead of him were Gophers or unattached athletes.
King was tenth in the hammer with a throw of 51.70 meters (169-7).
Trevor Davis (So., Farmington, Minn.) placed third in the javelin at
50.60 meters (166-0). John Yates (So., Bemidji, Minn.) was sixth with a
throw of 48.79 meters (160-1).
In the triple jump, Dan Johnson (Jr., Granite Falls, Minn.) placed
sixth with a leap of 12.67 meters (41-7). Vaulter Shaise Schuette (Fy.,
Anoka, Minn.) cleared 4.56 meters (14-11 1/2) to finish fifth. He was
the highest placing Division III competitor.
Devin Monson (So., Thompson, N.D.) finished tenth in the 1500-meter
run with five of the top nine competitors being unattached athletes. He
ran the race in 4:03.45.
Ellis Richardson (So., Roseville, Minn.) finished seventh in the
10,000-meter All-American Run portion of the meet, which was run at
Hamline. He ran the race in 31:59.88.
