The top six competitors in each event at nationals are All-Americans.

McKeag's put of 54-5 1/4 (16.59 meters) came in his final throw of the day.

McKeag qualified for nationals in the shot put with an automatic qualifying mark of 17.15 meters (56-3 1/4). His put, ranking him second in the nation entering the meet, came at the UW-Superior Border Battle on February 5th.

The shot put was won by David Pless of Bates College with a throw of 56-6 (17.22 meters).
