For Schmaedeke, it is his 10th MIAC coach-of-the-year honor.
Additionally, this marks the fifth straight season, and sixth in
seven seasons, that Schmaedeke has earned an MIAC coach-of-the-year
He took the honor in men’s cross country in 2009 and 2010, indoor
track and field in 2009, 2010, and now 2011, and for the 2010 outdoor
track and field season.
Schmaedeke led the Pipers to a second place finish at the conference
championships last weekend, falling by just eight points to St. Thomas.
Schmaedeke coached three individual champions and two winning relays
over the weekend, with a total of 14 top-three finishes and 29 scoring
performances, en route to Hamline's runner-up finish.
