Pipers battle through breakers for win over Oberlin

Hamline opened the morning with a 2-1 lead after doubles while playing to a tie-breaker in the two victories. David Croonquist (Fy., North Oaks, Minn.) and Robert Becker (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) won at first doubles 9-8 (7-4).

Then at second doubles, Bernard Mitambo (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kyle Helgemoe (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) posted a 9-8 victory by a 7-5 score in the tie-breaker.

The Pipers then went on to sweep the singles contests for the 8-1 match win.

Croonquist bounced back after losing the first set in his match at first singles, posting a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 win in the super-breaker.

The rest of the singles wins came more easily for the Pipers, as Becker won at second singles, 6-2, 6-1, Mitambo recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win at third singles, and Helgemoe won at fourth, 6-0, 6-1.

Sam Teitelbaum (So., Afton, Minn.) won at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-4, and Andrew Lutz (So., Pine City, Minn.) won at sixth, 6-1, 6-1.

The Pipers are now 6-5 overall while the Yeomen fell to 3-11 with the non-conference match.

Hamline remains in Orlando to take on Sioux Falls on Wednesday, March 31.
