The Pipers started off by winning a pair of doubles matches in the contest played at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
Croonquist and Robert Becker (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) won 8-5 at
first double while Mitambo and Sam Tieitelbaum (So., Afton, Minn.)
posted an 8-6 win at second doubles.
Croonquist went on to come back from a 1-5 first set deficit to win
his first singles match, 7-5, 6-1. Mitambo won at second singles, 6-4,
6-1.
The fifth Piper match victory came from Andrew Lutz (So., Pine City, Minn.) at fifth singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Tietelbaum lost a close match in a super-breaker at sixth singles,
6-3, 1-6, 8-10, as did Kyle Helgemoe (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) at fourth
singles, 6-7 (0-7), 6-4, 8-10.
Hamline is now 1-1, 0-1 MIAC while the Saints open the season at 0-2.
The Pipers will next host Martin Luther College at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, February 13. The match will be played at Lifetime Fitness in
Lakeville, Minn.
