The Pipers put together the initial rally of the day after winning
just one of the three doubles contests to start the match. Andrew Lutz
(So., Pine City, Minn.) and Dan Cromwell (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.)
needed a tie-breaker to post a victory at third doubles, 9-8 (7-4).
Robert Becker (So., Minnetonka, Minn.), Bernard Mitambo (So.,
Minneapolis, Minn.), and Kyle Helgemoe (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) then
battled to take three of the top four singles matches to put the Pipers
up 4-3.
Becker won at second singles, 7-5, 6-3, while Mitambo's win at third
singles was a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) match. Helgemoe went to a third set
super-breaker with his fourth singles win, 2-6, 6-0, 10-2.
With just two matches left on the court, Lutz dropped a close 4-6,
6-7 (0-7) match at fifth singles and Cromwell was defeated at sixth
singles, 4-6, 1-6.
The Pipers drop to 4-4, 0-4 MIAC and the Cobbers improve to 5-6, 1-2
MIAC. Hamline does not play again until the head to Orlando, Florida for
their spring break trip beginning on Sunday, March 28 against Cornell
College.
