St. Thomas opened with a pair of first period goals at 12:30 and
16:07. The Tommies then scored a power play goal just 19 seconds into
the second period and added another even strength tally at 1:40 for the
4-0 lead.
Berenguer (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored the Pipers' first goal at
3:54 in the second on an assist from Brian Arrigoni (So., Saint Paul,
Minn.).
St. Thomas then added two more tallies before the end of the second
period, scoring at 11:37 and 16:06, for a 6-1 lead as the teams started
the third.
Danny Vranek (Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.) scored on a power play at
4:48 in the third to make the score 6-2. Anderson and Jordan Van Gilder
(So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) were credited with the assists.
The Tommies scored their final goal of the game at 9:37.
Van Gilder added a goal to his assist with a score at 11:45. Anderson
and Berenguer combined for the assists. Anderson's goal would come
nearly three minutes later as he scored at 14:32. Berenguer and Kelly
Plude (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) earned the assists on that goal.
The Pipers moved to 10-3-3, 5-1-1 MIAC with the conference loss, and
the Tommies improve to 6-8-4, 3-4-2 MIAC. The same two teams will meet
again tomorrow, Saturday, January 23, at 7:15 p.m. at Hamline’s home ice
at Drake Arena.
