Van Gilder earns MIAC honor

Van Gilder (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) tallied his seven points from a goal and six assists in leading the Pipers to a 1-0-1 weekend against Bethel. Hamline remains the only team in the MIAC without a conference loss after the weekend.

On Friday, Van Gilder tallied four assists in a 6-3 win on the road. On Saturday, he had assists on the first two Piper goals.

Then, with the Pipers down 4-3 as the game was winding down, Van Gilder capped his weekend by scoring the game-tying goal with 17.1 seconds on the clock.

The seven points vaulted Van Gilder into a tie for third on the team in scoring as he doubled his season assist total in two goals.

Van Gilder is the third Piper to earn the MIAC men's hockey athlete of the week honor, and is the second so honored in two weeks. On November 22, defenseman Tim Olson (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) received the honor while forward Brian Arrigoni (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) took the award last Monday.

Hamline is ranked #12 in the latest USCHO.com national poll, released today. The Pipers will take on St. Thomas this weekend, hosting the Tommies on Friday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m. to start the series.
