Pipers win OT thriller over Oles

For St. Olaf, it was their fourth overtime game in five conference contests this season.

The Oles scored the lone goal of the first 40 minutes of play as they crashed the net and scored off of a rebound. Dylan Porter (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) took a shot that Beau Christian (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) saved. The rebound, however, went to Ross Trousdale (So., Buffalo, Minn.), who put it in the net just 98 seconds after the opening puck drop. Britton Smith (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) had the second assist alongside Porter.

Hamline out-shot St. Olaf 27-15 in the opening two periods, but couldn't convert on four power play opportunities in the second period. Nick Krauss (Sr., Naperville, Ill.) recorded those 27 saves in net for the Oles, including seven on the Piper power play.

With just under four minutes remaining in regulation, Danny Vranek (Sr., New Port Richey, Fla.) changed the fortune of the Piper special teams unit and tied the game. His score on the power play at 16:56 in the third was his fifth goal of the year. Brian Arrigoni (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) and Ryan Kupperman (Sr., Canterbury, N.H.) were credited with the assists.

Hamline needed just 16 extra seconds of game time to score the winning goal, as Cory Belisle's (Fy., Andover, Minn.) second collegiate goal lit the lamp. Alex Lundbohm (Sr., Roseau, Minn.) and Vranek had the assists on the game-winner.

The Pipers improve to 6-3-0, 3-0-0 MIAC with the conference win while the Oles drop to 4-5-2, 0-3-2 MIAC. The same two teams will play again tomorrow, Saturday, December 4, at St. Olaf at 7:00 p.m.
