Olson opened up the scoring for the Pipers at 6:48 in the first
period as he scored his first collegiate goal off of assists from Brett
Burgau (Sr., New Ulm, Minn.) and Jay Fifield (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.).
Fifield then had an assist on Hamline’s second goal of the game at
9:10 by Ryan Kupperman (Sr., Canterbury, N.H.). Alex Lundbohm (Sr.,
Roseau, Minn.) had the second assist.
Saint Mary’s kept the Pipers from shutting them out in the opening
period as Beau Braun (So., Darwin, Minn.) scored at 11:53. Kevin
Wentland (So., Columbia Heights, Minn.) had the assist.
Olson and Arrigoni (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) then put the Pipers up
4-1 during the second period. Olson’s second goal of the year was a
short-handed one at 1:16. Arrigoni had the solo assist on the score.
Arrigoni then tallied his fourth goal of the season as Kupperman and
Fifield passed the puck up to him in the neutral zone. Arrigoni broke
away and took the puck in the rest of the way on his own at 15:56.
Saint Mary’s carried a power play over into the start of the third
period, and capitalized on it just 11 seconds into the period. Wentland
scored the goal on assists from Nick Carson (Fy., Coon Rapids, Minn.)
and Mike Schaber (Fy., Blaine, Minn.).
Chris Berenguer (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) then tallied his fifth
goal of the season to put the Pipers up 5-2, scoring a power play goal
at 3:13 in the third. Lundbohm and Jordan Van Gilder (Jr., Lino Lakes,
Minn.) were credited with the assists.
Hamline’s sixth goal came at 14:19 as Cory Belisle (Fy., Andover,
Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal. Danny Vranek (Sr., New Port
Richey, Fla.) and Kupperman had the assists.
The Pipers out-shot the Cardinals 35-26 in the game. Beau Christian (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) had 24 saves in net for Hamline.
The Pipers improve to 5-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC while the Cardinals drop to
3-5-0, 0-2-0 MIAC after the conference contest. Hamline next plays on
Friday, November 26, as they play SUNY-Geneseo in a tournament at Adrian
College. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
