Of the nine total goals scored in the game, seven came from special
teams play. Jordan Van Gilder (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) led the Piper
point tally with four assists while five additional Pipers had
multi-point performances.
The Pipers jumped to an early and commanding lead in the first
period, starting with a pair of power play goals just after the
five-minute mark.
Cam Stowers (Fy., Spring, Texas) opened the scoring at 5:08 on an
assist from Cory Belisle (Fy., Andover, Minn.) and Van Gilder. Jay
Fifield (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) followed that up with another power
play goal at 6:51. Van Gilder and Chris Berenguer (Sr., Eden Prairie,
Minn.) were credited with the assists on that score.
Hamline then scored a third goal in the opening 20 minutes as Belisle
lit the lamp on an even-strength goal at 14:34. Van Gilder recorded
his third assist in as many goals on the tally.
Bethel Scored their
first goal of the game at 2:52 in the second period as Jack Paul scored
on a power play. Austin Hatch and Christian Fogerty were credited with
the assists.
Less than five minutes later, Berenguer put the Pipers up by three
goals once again as he scored an even-strength goal at 7:12. Danny
Vranek (Sr., New Port Richie, Fla.) had an assist on the score as Van
Gilder picked up his fourth assist of the night.
The Royals cut the deficit to two goals once again as Jake Calleja
added a power play goal at 12:35. Hatch picked up his second assist of
the game on the score while Garrett Windle had the second assist.
Hamline’s third power play goal of the game came at 17:38 as Vranek
added a goal to his night’s stats. Ryan Kupperman (Sr., Canterbury,
N.H.) and Brian Arrigoni (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) had the assists.
With 20 seconds left in the second period, Alex Lundbohm (Sr.,
Roseau, Minn.) put Hamline up 6-2 headed into the second intermission.
His score was by Arrigoni and Kupperman.
Just one goal was added to the scoreboard in the third, and that was a
power play goal by Bethel's Tyler Sorensen from Jack Paul and Jake
Kogler at 18:04.
The Royals out-shot the Pipers 38-to-29 in the game. Beau Christian
(Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) picked up the win in net while making 35 saves
for the Pipers.
The Pipers are now 9-3-2, 4-0-1 MIAC after the conference win. The
Royals are 3-11-2, 2-3-2 MIAC. The same two teams will meet again
tomorrow, Saturday, at 7:00 p.m. at Hamline’s home rink, the Warner
Coliseum.
