Hamline has the #5 seed in the playoffs and will play at the #4 seed Carleton Knights on Tuesday night.
The Pipers battled to an 8-6 lead at 16:48, but Alex Healy (Jr.,
North Oaks) drained a three-pointer that started the Tommies on a 14-0
to lead 20-8 at 13:07.
Hamline then went on a 10-1 run of their own, as Ray Brown (Sr.,
Saint Paul, Minn.) made three free throws and sank a shot from outside
the arc inside the 12-minute mark. That spurt cut the St. Thomas lead to
three, 21-18, at 10:09.
St. Thomas maintained a lead through the rest of the first half, upping their advantage to 13 at the break, 46-33.
A 10- to 13-point Tommie lead remained on the scoreboard through the
first eight minutes of the second half until Christian Taber (Fy.,
Brooklyn Park, Minn.) hit a jumper to cut it to nine, 59-50, at 12:28.
Hamline later cut the lead to eight at 8:39 on a jumper from Carl
Hipp (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.), but the Pipers couldn't get any closer
than that before the final buzzer.
Hipp led the Pipers with a double-double with 20 points and 14
rebounds. Brown added 15 points and Dan Andersen (Sr., Minneapolis,
Minn.) had 10 points.
St. Thomas was led by 21 points from Healy and 13 apiece from Tyler
Nicolai (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Joe Scott (Sr., St. Anthony,
Minn.).
