Ray Brown (Sr., Saint Paul, Minn.) scored the first three of his
game-high 26 points to open the game for Hamline. The Gusties held a
two-minute lead starting five and a half minutes after the opening tip,
but the Pipers carried a 35-31 lead into the locker room.
Hamline opened the second half with a 4-0 run to go up by eight,
39-31 at 17:28. Gustavus hit a layup at 13:19 to tie the score, 44-44,
but the Pipers took a three-point lead back just a minute later.
The scoreboard was tied up four more times before Gustavus took a
63-61 lead with 3:41 to play. The Gusties had four free throws in the
final ten seconds to get to their seven-point margin of victory.
Brown had a team-high five rebounds to go with the 26 points. Nick Carroll (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) had eight points.
Hamline is now 8-5, 4-4 MIAC. They will return home to Hutton Arena on Wednesday, January 13, to host Saint John's at 7:30 p.m.
