Pipers drop MIAC quarterfinal game to Carleton

Hipp (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.) opened the game with a pair of layups sandwiching a Carleton jumper. The score stayed within a point either way until Ray Brown (Sr., Saint Paul, Minn.) was fouled as he attempted a shot from outside the arc.

With the score tied 9-9 at 14:16, Brown drained all three free throws to ignite a 7-0 run that put the Pipers up 16-9 at 1:10.

The Pipers stayed in the lead until Seth Jonker hit a three-pointer for Carleton with just under two and a half minutes to play in the half, putting the Knights up 24-22.

Carleton carried a one-point lead into the locker room, 27-26.  Jordan Schmidt's (Fy., Northbrook, Ill.) six points led the Pipers in the first half.

Hamline took the lead back on the scoreboard, 31-30, just over a minute into the second half as Nick Carroll (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) made a layup.

The teams tied up the score four times over the next seven minutes, but once again Jonker took back the lead for the Knights, 43-42, this time with a short jumper at 9:42.

Over the next four minutes, Carleton built up a nine-point lead, going ahead 55-46 at 5:54. The Pipers couldn't cut the lead closer than four points before the final buzzer, ultimately falling by eight points.

Hipp led the Pipers with 26 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots. Brown had nine points and Schmidt finished with eight.

Jonker had 26 points and seven boards for the Knights.

The Pipers end the season with an overall record of 15-11 after finishing the regular season with a mark of 11-9 in MIAC play. Carleton moves on to the semifinal game with a record of 17-9, 12-8 MIAC.
