Hipp (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.) opened the game with a pair of
layups sandwiching a Carleton jumper. The score stayed within a point
either way until Ray Brown (Sr., Saint Paul, Minn.) was fouled as he
attempted a shot from outside the arc.
With the score tied 9-9 at 14:16, Brown drained all three free throws to ignite a 7-0 run that put the Pipers up 16-9 at 1:10.
The Pipers stayed in the lead until Seth Jonker hit a three-pointer
for Carleton with just under two and a half minutes to play in the half,
putting the Knights up 24-22.
Carleton carried a one-point lead into the locker room, 27-26.
Jordan Schmidt's (Fy., Northbrook, Ill.) six points led the Pipers in
the first half.
Hamline took the lead back on the scoreboard, 31-30, just over a
minute into the second half as Nick Carroll (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.)
made a layup.
The teams tied up the score four times over the next seven minutes,
but once again Jonker took back the lead for the Knights, 43-42, this
time with a short jumper at 9:42.
Over the next four minutes, Carleton built up a nine-point lead,
going ahead 55-46 at 5:54. The Pipers couldn't cut the lead closer than
four points before the final buzzer, ultimately falling by eight points.
Hipp led the Pipers with 26 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked
shots. Brown had nine points and Schmidt finished with eight.
Jonker had 26 points and seven boards for the Knights.
The Pipers end the season with an overall record of 15-11 after
finishing the regular season with a mark of 11-9 in MIAC play. Carleton
moves on to the semifinal game with a record of 17-9, 12-8 MIAC.
