Pipers power to big road win over Auggies

Ray Brown (Sr., Saint Paul, Minn.) opened the game quickly for a visitors with a three-pointer. Seven and a half minutes after the opening tip, Hamline led by eight, 20-12.

At the midway point of the first half, the Pipers led by 11, 27-16, and Brown had already put 12 points on the board. Carl Hipp (Jr., Little Canada, Minn.) tallied eight in the opening 10 minutes.

Hamline’s largest lead of the half was 14 points, which they held three times. They led by 11 at the break, 51-40. Hipp had 16 points in the half while Brown finished the half with the 12.

The Pipers never led up in the second half, staying ahead by double-digits and gaining a 20-point lead on the final basket of the game, 72-52, with 1:35 remaining in the game.

Brown and Hipp each had a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds apiece. Hipp had 24 points and three blocks while Brown tallied 20 points. Jordan Schmidt (Fy., Northbrook, Ill.) dished out seven assists in the game.

Hamline improves to 10-6, 6-5 MIAC with the conference win while the Auggies are now 12-4, 7-4 MIAC. The Pipers remain on the road to play the second game of a women’s-men’s double-header at Macalester on Saturday, January 23. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
