The Pipers held an early lead through the first three minutes of the
game, but the Oles quickly took control on their home court.
St. Olaf took their largest lead of the half at the buzzer with a Bobby Fong jumper. They led at the intermission by 12, 48-36.
The Oles maintained control through the second half, leading by as many as 17, 75-58, at 9:43.
The Piper cut their deficit to four, 100-96, but a pair of Ole free throws at the end of the game put it away for the hosts.
Hipp had 24 and 10 rebounds while Mike Campbell (Jr., Burnsville,
Minn.) added 14 points. Noah Aguirre (So., Fillmore, Calif.) and Sam
Gullickson (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) chipped in 12 apiece.
Fong led the Oles with 20 points. Four additional St. Olaf players had double-digit point totals.
The Pipers are now 6-6, 4-3 MIAC while the Oles are 8-4, 3-4 MIAC.
Hamline returns home to Hutton Arena on Saturday, January 15, hosting
Saint Mary's at 3:00 p.m. It is the second game of a women's-men's
double-header.
