The Knights led by four at the half, 36-32, but the Pipers evened things
up in the second. The see-saw battle saw the scoreboard tied eight
times in the second half with the lone lead larger than a possession
coming at 7:14. At that point, Carleton briefly led by five, 58-53.
In
the end, a Jeremy Sutherland (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) shot from
beyond the arc with 5.3 seconds on the clock gave the Knights the win
when the Pipers couldn't respond at the buzzer.
Sutherland had a
game-high 25 points that included both his 1,000th career point. He
also pulled down seven rebounds. He was the lone Knight to score in the
double-digits.
Hamline was led by Carl Hipp's (Sr., Little
Canada, Minn.) 23 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocks. Hipp had a
double-double at halftime with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Campbell
(Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) added 19 points for the Pipers.
The
Pipers are now 8-7, 6-4 MIAC while the Knights are 9-6, 8-2 MIAC.
Hamline next travels to Concordia for a 3:00 p.m. game on Saturday,
January 22. It will be the second game in a women's-men's double-header.
