Mike Campbell (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) opened the game with a pair of
free throws for the Pipers. After that, with the exception of ties at
2-2 and 4-4, the Pipers held a lead on the scoreboard until the end of
the game.
Hamline generated their first double-digit lead23-12, at 9:33 when
Brandon Rieg (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) drained one of the Pipers' 11
three-pointers in the game.
The Pipers shot exactly 44% (11-of-25) from outside the arc in the game and exactly 50% (35-of-70) from the field.
Hamline was holding a 17-point lead, 48-31, with half a minute to
play in the half as Bethel took the ball down and tried to stall to get
the final basket before the break.
With six seconds remaining, Christian Taber (So., Brooklyn Park,
Minn.) swatted down a Bethel shot. Campbell recovered it and dished it
off to Taber for the layup at the buzzer, putting Hamline up 50-31 at
the intermission.
Hamline went on to dominate in the second half, out-scoring the Royals 49-34 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Daniel Baah's (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) 13 points led the Royals.
Hipp finished with his second double-double this week, bringing down
15 rebounds while scoring 18 points. He also added a blocked shot and a
steal.
Campbell finished with 18 points and seven rebounds while Levi
Wenrich (Jr., Newhall, Calif.) dished out seven assists to help out the
Piper offense.
Noah Aguirre (So., Fillmore, Calif.) rounded out the double-digit Piper scoring with 11 points.
Hamline had 13 different players put points on the scoreboard with 10 of them tallying six or more.
Hamline is now 5-5, 3-2 MIAC while Bethel is 3-7, 0-5 MIAC. The
Pipers hit the road on Saturday, January 8, to play Macalester at 3:00
p.m.
