The game started with the teams exchanging long TD plays in the
opening two minutes. The scoring opened with Dan Dobson (So., Mankato,
Minn.) connecting on a 37-yard TD pass to Jake Schmeising (So.,
Stillwater, Minn.) for the Oles at 13:49.
Hamline responded just two offensive snaps later with a 77-yard
rushing touchdown from Zach Cornish (Fy., Barstown, Calif.) down the
near sideline. However, that would be all the scoring the Pipers managed
in the first half.
The visiting Oles produced all of their scoring in the first half,
putting up 21 points in each of the first two quarters of play.
The Pipers scored the only points of the second half as John Broback
(So., Apple Valley, Minn.) made a 38-yard field goal at 10:31 in the
fourth quarter. He also made the PAT after the touchdown and is now
22-for-22 on the year.
Dobson had a strong day for the Oles, throwing for 236 yards and five
touchdowns on 12-for-18 passing. He tossed a pair of 38-yard TD passes
to Antonio Jennings (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) and Casey Leslie (So., Orlando,
Fla.), in addition to the 37-yarder to open.
Jennings led the Ole receivers with 88 yards on four catches while
the Hamline offense was led by 100 rushing yards from Cornish.
For the Pipers, Nate Sarrain (Fy., Clyde Park, Mont.) and Pete Usset
(Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) each had a fumble recovery. John-Michael
Vandenberg (So., Bothell, Wash.) had ten tackles (one solo, nine
assists) to lead Hamline.
The Oles' defense was led by six tackles apiece from Danny Tutewohl
(So., Farmington, Minn.) and Zac Lundgren (Jr., Independence, Minn.).
Hamline drops to 1-7, 0-6 in conference play while the Oles improve
to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC. The Pipers will host their home
finale next Saturday, November 6, as #19 Bethel comes to Klas Field for a
1:00 p.m. game.
