The Pipers took the role of the away team while UW-Whitewater was the
home team in game one of the double-header. The Warhawks jumped on
board with three runs on three hits, including a lead-off triple by
Daniel Putnam (Jr., Ashland, Wis.) in the top of the first.
Whitewater led off the second inning with a pair of doubles and added
four runs on four hits in the frame. In the fourth inning they took a
16-0 lead with nine runs on six hits, one error. In that inning, Ryan
Mullin (Fy., Oak Park, Ill.) had a two-run triple and Jeff Donovan (Jr,.
Wauwaurosa, Wis.) had a two-run homerun.
Hamline’s run came in the sixth inning on a pinch hit RBI single to
right field by Dan Endres (Fy., LeSueur, Minn.). The hit scored Derek
Ritter (Fy., Owatonna, Minn.), who recorded a pinch hit lead-off single
to right field to get on base.
The Warhawks scored their 18 runs on 18 hits and a Hamline error while the Pipers had a run on five hits.
Dan Ellefson (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) went 2-for-3 to lead the Pipers
at the plate in the first game. Donovan was 2-for-3 from the plate with
four RBI and four runs scored for the Warhawks. Four other Whitewater
players added three RBI apiece.
Aaron Leitner (1-0, So, Chilton, Wis.) went five innings, giving up
two hits and a walk in earning the win for UW-Whitewater. Rob Miller
(0-1, Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) took the loss on the mound for the Pipers.
Game 2:

Hamline moved to the spot of the home team on the scoreboard in the
second game of the afternoon. However, Whitewater once again scored
three runs in the first inning, this time on a pair of hits, to take an
early lead.
They took a 5-0 lead in the second when they added two more runs on a hit to the scoreboard.
The Pipers put a run on the board in the third when Cory Miller (So.,
Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored on a wild pitch from Warhawk starting
pitcher Jason Hooper (Sr., Lake Mills, Wis.). Miller had reached first
on a fielder’s choice and then was advanced to third on a single to left
center by Andy King (So., Fort Myers, Fla.).
The Warhawks responded with another pair of runs in the top of the
fourth on a trio of hits, put five on the board in the fifth on four
hits, and added their final run in the top of the seventh on two hits.
J.D. Modrynski (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate to
lead Hamline while Donovan added three more RBI to his day’s total
while going 2-for-5 for the Warhawks. Jordan Stine (Sr., Merrill, Wis.)
added three more RBI for UW-Whitewater.
Hooper went six innings, giving up four hits and a run for the win
for the Warhawks. Cass Kreitlow (Jr., Brooten, Minn.) took the loss for
the Pipers, throwing three innings and giving up four runs on five hits.
Hamline is now 0-6 overall with the non-conference losses. The
Warhawks are 3-0 overall. Hamline next plays on Monday, March 15, when
they take on Northwestern College in a 9:45 p.m. double-header at the
Metrodome.
