The Oberlin Yeomen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of
play, but the Pipers built up a 4-1 advantage with a pair of runs in the
bottom of the third and another two in the fifth.
In the third, Hamline scored their runs on a pair of hits and an
Oberlin error. Dan Ellefson (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) led off the inning
with a single to to right field before Lincoln Hughes (Sr., Inver Grove
Heights, Minn.) reached on an error. The duo advanced into scoring
position on a ground-out and then both scored on a single up the middle
by Tony Rogers (Jr., Elk River, Minn.).
The Pipers used a trio of hits in the fifth to go up 4-1. Hughes was
the first Piper on base as he singled to left center with one out and
Andy Powell (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) followed with a single to right
field. Hughes then scored on a Rogers single to left field while Powell
scored as Cory Miller (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) reached on a fielder's
choice.
Oberlin tied the game in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on
four hits (three singles and a double), but the Pipers regained a
one-run lead in the bottom of the inning.
Hamline took advantage of two Oberlin errors after J.D. Modrynski (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) was hit by a pitch to go up 5-4.
The Yeomen then tied the game in the seventh, and as the game went
into extra innings, scored a pair of runs on two hits and an error in
the eighth. The Pipers were unable to score in the bottom half of the
inning and the Yeomen took the 7-5 win.
Rogers was 2-for-4 in the game with three RBI to lead Hamline. Evan
Knutson (Fy., Faribault, Minn.) threw two and two-thirds innings to take
the loss in relief, giving up five hits and striking out two batters.

Oberlin once again took a 1-0 lead early in the game this time
scoring on four hits and a Piper error in the bottom of the second
inning. The Pipers then used three extra-base hits and a Yeomen error in
the fifth to jump out to a 3-1 lead.
Hughes led off the inning with a double down the left field line, but
was thrown out at third on a steal attempt. Jacob Dahl (Fy.,
Burnsville, Minn.) was then hit by pitch and used an error to advance to
second as Powell reached on a fielder's choice. Rogers then drove in
both runners with a triple to right center. He scored when Miller hit a
triple to right center for the third run of the inning.
The Yeoman tied up the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the sixth, scoring
on three hits and an error, but the Pipers went up 5-3 in the top of
the seventh. Rogers had his sixth RBI of the day on a double down the
left field line and Miller added his second RBI of the game on a single
to left field.
The two-run cushion didn't hold, however, as Oberlin used four hits
and a Piper wild pitch to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh
for the win.
Rogers was 2-for-3 in game two with three RBI, finishing the day
going 4-for-7 at the plate with six RBI. Miller was 2-for-4 in game two
with with the pair of RBI.
Cass Kreitlow (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) threw all six and one-thirds on the mound in taking the loss for Hamline.
The Pipers are now 5-12 overall and play one more game in Arizona on Wednesday, March 31, taking on Williams.
