The host Scots broke open an 11-point lead, 17-6, nine minutes into
the game. Macalester held onto a significant lead until Hamline cut an
eight-point deficit at the four-minute mark into a tie with 69 seconds
to play until the half.
Down 30-22 with 4:00 on the clock, Hamline drained four straight
jumpers, including two from Kara Poirier (So., Eau Claire, Wis.), for
the 30-30 tie with 1:09 remaining.
Gustavus would go on to lead by three, 34-31, at the break.
Hamline twice got within two points in the opening five minutes of
the second half. But the Scots always had an answer, and with nine
minutes left in the game, took a seven-point lead, 59-52. They
maintained a two-basket or more advantage until the final buzzer.
Wilkowski had 26 points and 11 rebounds while Steph Robinson (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa) had 13 points for the Pipers.
Hamline is now 10-13, 9-11 MIAC while the Scots are 10-13, 10-10
MIAC. The Pipers next play on Wednesday, February 16, at 7:30 p.m.
