With the loss, the Pipers are locked in at either the #3 or #4 seed
in the tournament, which means that they will host a quarterfinal game
on Wednesday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Hutton Arena. Information
about ticket sales will be release following Saturday's regular season
finale.
The opening minutes of the game saw back-and-forth play as the Tommies jumped out to an early six-point lead, 8-2, at 16:55.
The Pipers bounced back to lead by four, 12-8, at 15:18 as Brandon
Rieg (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) and Christian Taber (So., Brooklyn Park,
Minn.) let loose with a pair of three-pointers.
That would be the last lead the Pipers would hold, as the Tommies
responded with a three-pointer from Peter Leslie that started a 13-0 run
and put St. Thomas up by nine, 21-12, at 10:56.
St. Thomas went on to shoot 63% in the second half, after shooting
39% in the opening 20 minutes, to run out ahead of the Pipers for the
win.
Carl Hipp (Sr., Little Canada, Minn.) had a double-double with 15
points and 12 rebounds to lead the Pipers. Mike Campbell (Jr.,
Burnsville, Minn.) added 13 points. Five different Tommies scored in
double-digits.
The Pipers are now 15-9, 13-6 MIAC while the Tommies are 21-3, 16-3.
Hamline returns home to Hutton Arena for their regular season finale at
3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, against Concordia. The game is the
second in a women's-men's double-header.
