"King on Campus, King in the Community”
Please join the Hedgeman Center in commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. in the Sundin Music Hall. The day of service will take place off campus from 10:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Join members of the University and neighboring communities for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy as we reflect upon his life, leadership and legacy of social justice and pursuit of racial and social justice.
The day begins with the Annual University Commemoration in Sundin Music Hall from 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Participants include President Fayneese Miller, undergraduate student Tiara Arradondo-Hunter (’17), staff member Jason Verdugo (HU Athletics) and others. The program also features music from the Hamline University Gospel Choir.
In addition to the university commemoration, the MLK Day of Service offers our university community a tangible way for university members to purposefully act to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community building. During the MLK Day of Service, pre-registered faculty, staff and students will participate in service opportunities at one of six local community organizations on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Additional information on these events, including the registration process for MLK Day of Service component will be available on January 3, 2017 with registration running from Tuesday, January 3, 2017 - Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
