The keynote will address the roots and meaning of Nelson Mandela’s politics and why such a politics of empowerment is of crucial importance today, in a time when Americans, like South Africans, feel increasingly powerless to address the mounting challenges we face, from rising inequality and racial disparities to global warming and educational reform.
Harry Boyte, Director of the Center for Democracy and Citizenship at Augsburg College and Senior Fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, lives several months a year in South Africa, where he is also a Visiting Professor at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
