Staff Diversity Development Initiative
In support of the Hamline University mission and value of diversity education and professional development, the Staff Diversity Development Initiative Committee has chosen Alfred Lubrano’s Limbo: Blue-Collar Roots, White-Collar Dreams (2004) has the selection for the Spring Reading Circle. Described as “a groundbreaking work of narrative non-fiction,” this powerful book uncovers a cultural phenomenon – the limbo existence of people raised in blue-collar families, living white-collar lives. Limbo presents a thoughtful look at this phenomenon though the author’s personal story, and those of 100 interviewees, all struggling with the duality that exists in their workplaces, their hearts, and their minds.
In response to previous book club participants, the first half of the book will be discussed on Wednesday, April 9 (3:00-4:00 p.m.), while the second half of the book will be discussed on Thursday, April 24 (12:00-1:00 p.m.) A limited number of books have been purchased to support staff members who are interested in participating in the Spring Book Club.
