Participate in a book drive to benefit Books for Africa!
This April, lawyers and law students are joining forces to host a book drive to benefit Books For Africa -- a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to end the book famine in Africa. Since 1988, Books For Africa has shipped over 27 million books to 48 countries in Africa. The book drive will run from Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 19. The book drive is organized by the new lawyers’ sections of the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations as well as the law students of the University of Minnesota, William Mitchell, Hamline, and St. Thomas.
We are asking new lawyers and law students to donate books that can help educate children in Africa who are hungry to read and learn. The books can be new or slightly used, educational or fun. Textbooks are acceptable if they are relatively current (within the last 10 years) and are general subjects -- for example, a book on torts would be suitable; a state practice series would not. Thus, students and lawyers can donate virtually any kind of book, from old textbooks to your favorite novel or the children’s story that inspired you to read!
The donation process is simple. Starting April 8, donation boxes will be set up at the HCBA and MSBA offices, the law schools, and in local law firms (to request a donation box, email Joe Mrkonich at firstname.lastname@example.org). Funds may also be donated online. Boxes at Hamline will be in the law school basement.
As a fun way to finish the drive, the new lawyers and law students will volunteer at the Books for Africa warehouse on Saturday, April 20 to sort the books. Please RSVP to Jim Skoog at email@example.com as space is limited.
The new and future lawyers of the Twin Cities are excited to help Books for Africa fulfill its mission and give children the opportunity to read which has served lawyers well. We appreciate your support!
