• Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the FAFSA To Apply for Financial Aid for the 2016-2017 academic year:

    Start Your FAFSA

Please Note: The 2016-2017 FAFSA application is required for consideration for financial aid for the Fall 2016, Winter 2017, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017 semesters.

    Create an FSA ID

The FSA ID - a username and password - has replaced the Federal Student Aid PIN and must be used to log in to certain U. S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. If you do not already have an FSA ID, you can create one when logging in to fafsa.gov, the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), studentloans.gov, studentaid.gov, and Agreement to Serve (ATS).

How to Create an FSA ID

    File for the FAFSA

    • Federal income tax returns for 2015
    • W-2 forms for 2015
    • Records of untaxed benefits received for 2015
    • Current bank statements
    • Records of other savings and investments, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Do NOT include retirement or pension accounts.

    • We strongly encourage you to begin the process in January by creating an FSA ID at www.fsaid.ed.gov prior to starting your FAFSA (if you don't already have a FSA ID). It can take a few days after creating the FSA ID to verify your social security number. You will not be able to use your FSA ID until your social security number is verified.
    • Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and list Hamline's Federal School Code, 002354.
    • We strongly recommend you elect to download tax data directly from the IRS using the Data Retrieval Tool.

Check to see if any additional documents are needed

Some students will be selected for verification or need to provide extra documentation before an award can be created. You can check in Piperline to see if you have been selected or if further information is required by choosing “Financial Aid Services”, then “Eligibility”. Use the drop-down menu to view the correct aid year. If you have been selected for verification, please go here for more information.

If you feel the FAFSA has not allowed you to record all the factors that affect your financial situation, please request a "Special Circumstance" form from the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@hamline.edu.
