Laura Ruby
Laura Ruby writes fantasy, mystery, and contemporary realistic fiction for young readers. Her tween novels include Lily’s Ghost (2003), a mystery, and two fantasies: The Wall and the Wing (2006) and its sequel, The Chaos King (2007). Her novels for teens include Good Girls (2006), Play Me (2008), and Bad Apple (2009). She is also the author of short fiction for adults and published an interconnected collection of stories, I’m Not Julia Roberts (2007), which was featured in People, Redbook, Working Mother, and USA Today. Her books have been cited on numerous “Best” lists, including Chicago Public Library’s Best of the Best, Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers, New York Public Library’s Books for the Teen Age, the Center for Children's Books Best Books of the Year List, Book Sense Picks, and Popular Paperbacks, have won awards such as Parent’s Choice Silver Honor Award, the Sunshine State Book Award, and The Friends of American Writers Award, and have been nominated for both the Edgar Award and the Carnegie Medal.
She is a frequent presenter and regularly teaches workshops at the Highlights Foundation. Originally from New Jersey, Laura now lives in the Chicago area with her husband.
