    People Behind the Project

    Student Involvement

The University Center can really be thought of as a catalyst for the growth of the Hamline community and is a strong asset to Hamline's past, present, and future students. It provides a modern facility for university functions and community events and embodies the university's globally conscience perspective by incorporating an environmentally friendly design. The University Center provides a location for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and other community members to come together and be just that: a community. Because it offers so much to such a variety of people, I, along with other members of the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress, donated a small portion of our funds to the University Center project. The idea was to show student support for this much needed enhancement of the campus, and to give back to the past, present, and future students of Hamline.

I was involved with the Master Planning Committee and the University Center Task Force as a part of my job responsibilities as President of HUSC. I was in no way expecting either of those roles to be ones I would come to be invested in, as I largely expected that the work of either committee would be over my head, and of the logistical nature. However, I very quickly found quite the opposite to be true. Working with the UCTF was one of the most rewarding experiences I had as student body president. Engaging with dedicated faculty, staff, and administration in conversations about the needs of the Hamline community yielded what I believe is a plan for a University Center that we can be proud of. Prospective students, current students, faculty and staff, and alumni can all be proud to be a part of a community that is building a University Center that truly speaks to the character, innovation, and pride of Hamline. While it may be difficult to see the necessity of this building at this point, especially for those not involved in the committee work from the beginning, I do believe that each and every member of the Hamline Community will see the benefits when we have one common space on this campus that we may each call "home."

Shepley Bulfinch has been honored with countless awards for the firm's design excellence as well as their achievements in innovation, sustainability, and building envelope technology.

    Shepley Bulfinch & Hamline University

Designing for education clients begins with a simple but essential question: how do people learn today, and how is that changing?
Answering these questions and giving it physical form is a constituent- and concern-rich undertaking. This includes working in partnership with clients to develop and vision and strategy that will frame future campus development. We create environments that promote intellectual curiosity and academic excellence, inspired by our clients' larger mission to prepare and guide the next generation of leaders.
As leading institutions know, we build on the legacy that is left to us. With insight and commitment we forge tomorrow's legacy.
