Africa Aye
Africa Aye was founded in 1989 to promote traditional African music. The group is a consortium of
nine artists representing Mongo, Kongo, Kuba, Luba, Songye, Lunda, Tshokwe, Yaka, Ngala, and
Batswa music and dance, all of Central Africa. Africa Aye has toured internationally throughout
Belgium, Côte d'Ivoire, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United States.

Performers present a rich traditional style more than one thousand years old with songs and dances
related to healing and initiation rituals and the interaction between humans and nature, or Samba
Samba. The instruments used are the Ngoma drum, the Madimba (xylophone), the Likembe (thumb
piano), the Langun’g (a music bow), and rattles. Such music is the root of current Congo urban music
as well as Afro-Cuban, Jazz, and Reggae. Performers also present historic tales, metaphors, and a
traditional fighting system known as Libanda.

Africa Aye celebrates the genius of African traditional artists. The group's goal is to entertain,
educate, and raise awareness regarding ethnic groups, and to promote a universal understanding
of Africa’s rich and diverse history and cultures.
