The Hamline Dialogues
The Hamline Dialogues, co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Public Administration and Management, the Graduate School of Education, and the Liberal Studies Program seek to provide a forum for conversation between guest speakers, students, faculty, alumni and the broader community on topics that touch our lives. They build on the commitment by Hamline University to build community both on and off campus.

Graduate School of Education, Summer Literacy Institute Program Cover
Hamline University has a 150 year tradition of teacher preparation and this project will literally, illustrate the connection between Hamline's past and its future as a leader in continuing education. An artist and teacher will create artwork for the Summer Literacy and Learning Institute using our 150th Anniversary as an inspiration.

Bush Library Author's Day
Author's Day features readings from Hamline authors including faculty, staff, and students as well a display of books purchased through the Historical Imprint Collection and a reception. This event provides a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the academic contributions of Hamline University.

150 Years of Leaders
The Office for Student Activities and Leadership Development is planning the annual Student Leadership Banquet with a twist this year. The theme of the event is “150 Years of Leaders” and will feature current and former student organization leaders. The program will include a historical slide show of student events, will showcase the accomplishments of alumni, and celebrate the accomplishments of current students. This program is a great example of “ Looking Back, Thinking Forward ,” the anniversary theme! See some fun photos of student activities of the past!

Hamline's Big Dig
The College of Liberal Arts anthropology department is sponsoring a course and a first year seminar that will concentrate on the use of anthropological methods to understand Hamline University's heritage. Plans are underway for an excavation of the foundation of the Old Science Building, (built in 1888 and torn down in 1971) on several weekends during the fall of 2004. Alumni will also be invited back to campus for the dig, a dinner, silent auction and other activities. For additional information about the Old Science Building and others, check out the "Gone but Not Forgotten" section of this site.

Hamline University's Contribution to the Civil War
A Hamline CLA student will be researching the lives of the Hamline University students who volunteered to fight in the Civil War to find out who they were, why they risked their lives for their country, and what impact they had in the war and our nation's history. Find out more about what was happening at Hamline during the Civil War on the Historical Hamline section of this site.

Hancock Hamline Rededication Celebration
The program will celebrate the relationship between Hamline University and Hancock Elementary School, neighbors for over one hundred years! The program will include school representatives renewing their dedication to the collaboration with a signing ceremony, the release of butterflies, and the singing of an original song, written by a Hamline music student. The entire day will also include the annual Earth Day Celebration featuring games, entertainment, a display of academic work done by groups of Hancock and Hamline students and dancers.

Oracle Archive Project
One hundred and fifteen years of living history are currently sitting quietly on the second floor of the Bush Library collecting dust. The Oracle archives, stored on microfilm, offer a unique look into the university's long history, but they are inaccessible because they are separated from alumni by the gulf of inconvenience. By converting all issues of the Oracle to Adobe PDF files, the Hamline community will have instant access to the experiences of student for nearly the entire history of Hamline

Residence Hall History
A Student Affairs intern researched the history of the residence halls and apartment complex through books, the archives office and personal stories. The information is now available, but needs to be bound and printed to be more accessible to both the Hamline and Midway communities.
